OpenRouter launches Jev Router — the first prod-grade model router powered by Jev
On 25 September 2026, OpenRouter launched typesafe/jev-router, described as “the world’s first prod-grade auto router powered by Jev” (source).
The Jev Router picks the best model and reasoning effort for each request, balancing quality, speed, and cost. It’s cache-aware, so it respects provider sticky routing to maximize cache hits.
How it works
According to the open-source reference:
- Client sends
model: "jev-router"to the OpenRouter API - The router builds a minimized summary of the request (roles, truncated text, capability signals)
- It filters candidates to models that can serve the request (vision, output length, tools)
- Jev picks the best candidate from the eligible pool
- Any failure falls back to a configured model
Privacy note
When Jev routing is enabled, a minimized summary of the request is sent to TypeSafe, a third party. The full request content is not shared. Without a TypeSafe key, routing stays local with a rules-based fallback.
Why this matters
This is the first time a major LLM gateway has integrated Jev as an internal routing engine — not just as a model you can call, but as infrastructure that powers model selection across the platform.
The integration validates the thesis that System One models can make production routing decisions at scale, moving beyond the “prompt-and-parse” pattern of using LLMs for classification.
