Paper: Jev makes agent decisions cheaper and faster, but not better agents

“When Faster Decisions Do Not Make Better Agents” (Ling, Yu, Chen, Fang; submitted 9 Oct 2026) puts Jev in place of the LLM decision step in five agents, across ALFWorld (embodied tasks) and AndroidWorld (mobile apps), 4,500 runs in total.

Findings: Jev cuts decision cost and latency in all five agents. Task success stays near baseline on ALFWorld and falls more in two mobile agents. Extra reasoning and interactions eat the savings, and in one agent the mean cost per successful task goes up. The authors recommend judging decision models by delivered tasks, recovery and resources per success, not per-call savings.

Relevant to every Jev-style deployment in agent loops.
